Dr. Susan Brumfield is Professor of Music Education at Texas Tech University, and holds a Ph. D. in Music Education from the University of Oklahoma. She is known throughout the United States and Europe as a clinician, consultant, author, composer, arranger and conductor of children's choirs, and is an internationally recognized Kodaly educator. Dr. Brumfield is an author for the national series music texts, Silver Burdett Making Music, and Hal Leonard's Music Express Magazine. Her choral music is published through Colla Voce and Hal Leonard. Dr. Brumfield's most recent publication is Hot Peas and Barley-O: Children's Songs and Games from Scotland (Hal Leonard Publications). Two new books on children's songs from England and Italy are forthcoming.
(ON LEAVE) Beverly Fleming has been with the West Texas Children's Chorus since its inception in 2002. She is currently a music specialist in Lubbock ISD at Murfee Elementary school. Her honor choirs have been selected to perform at various civic events around the city of Lubbock and her students have performed in the National Children's Chorus through the Organization of American Kodaly Educators (OAKE). Beverly received her music degree from Illinois State University where she studied flute performance. Ms. Fleming is finalizing her Kodaly certification with the West Texas Kodaly Initiative in Lubbock. She has completed four levels of advanced studies on Kodaly methods at the University of North Texas. In 2003, Ms. Fleming was named Music Teacher of the Year in the Lubbock Avalanche Journal.
Beth Berridge is a native of Plano, Texas. She has taught elementary and junior high music in Lubbock and Odessa. Mrs. Berridge holds a bachelor's in music and a master's in music education from Texas Tech University. She is also certified through the Organization of American Kodaly Educators. She designed a developmentally appropriate curriculum for the beginning junior high choir, which she successfully implemented in Lubbock. She is the co-author of the newly revised Elementary Music Curriculum for Ector County ISD and has served as an adjunct music literature professor at Odessa College for three years. She has had the pleasure of working under Dr. Brumfield as faculty of the West Texas Kodaly Initiative since 2005. Mrs. Berridge is currently teaching music part-time at Bozeman Elementary. This is her third year to be a part of The West Texas Children's Chorus.
Donna Hogan is a Lubbock native and Texas Tech graduate. Following her receipt of a bachelor of music degree in 2006, Donna worked for the Lubbock Independent School District as a music specialist, teaching general music to students in kindergarten through fifth grade. She is currently working towards a master's of music education at Texas Tech University. Ms. Hogan has recently been awarded a teaching assistant appointment, as well as an AT&T Chancellor's Graduate Fellowship. Donna has worked with the West Texas Children's Chorus since its charter season.
For the past six years, Daniel Todd has been the choir director at J. T. Hutchinson Middle School in Lubbock, Texas. Mr. Todd completed both his bachelor's and master's of music education at Texas Tech University and level four Kodaly training from the West Texas Kodaly Initiative. He is currently pursuing his Ph. D. in Fine Arts with emphasis in music education and choral music. He is in his fifth year assisting the West Texas Children's Chorus. Mr. Todd presented a session at the 2006 OAKE national conference entitled: Kodaly: Methods and Materials in the Choral Classroom. The Cantare Treble Choir was invited to perform at the 2008 OAKE National Conference. Daniel is also a composer and arranger currently working on a collection of two-part a capella American folk songs to be used in the middle school and junior high choral classroom.
(ON LEAVE) April Tryon is in her eighth year of teaching elementary music and is currently the music teacher at Centennial Elementary. April received her undergraduate degree at Lubbock Christian University and her master's degree at Texas Tech University, both in music education. April is also an adjunct professor at Lubbock Christian University. Ms. Tryon has been trained in the Kodaly method and uses that training to enrich the musical lives of her students both at the elementary and college levels.
Julie Heller, originally from Fort Worth, received her bachelor's of music education with an emphasis in voice from Tarleton State University in 2007. She is currently a graduate student at Texas Tech University where she is working on her master's of music education degree. She holds the office of Director for the South Central 3 District of the professional music fraternity, Mu Phi Epsilon. Ms. Heller has assisted with the Preparatory choir since 2008.
Kris Olson recently moved to Lubbock from Minneapolis, MN where she taught elementary music for 17 years. Most recently, she has delved into early childhood music, teaching parent/ child classes, and integrating music in special education preschool programs as part of a prestigious Wallace Foundation grant. Ms. Olson has a master's degree in music education with an Orff-Schulwerk emphasis from the University of Saint Thomas, Minnesota. She is a regular workshop presenter for Orff events and has taught classes on movement and music through George Mason University, Saint Thomas University and the University of Steven's Point. Ms. Olson studied dance at the Zenon Dance Company in Minneapolis and likes to pick up dances in whatever city she happens to be living in or visiting.
Marianne Condit has a bachelor's in music education from Texas Tech University. Ms. Condit has been volunteering with the WTCC since fall of 2008. Her principal instrument is clarinet, however, she enjoys singing and working with children as well. Ms. Condit is very excited about her future as a music educator and loves working with everyone at WTCC!
Kristin King is the business manager for the West Texas Children's Chorus and has been working with the organization since August 2007. She earned her bachelor of music degree, as well as an MBA from Texas Tech University. During her time as a music student, she played the clarinet in various performance ensembles.
Dr. Lucy Green is the web master for West Texas Children's Chorus. She develops and maintains electronic products for WTCC as well as several other organizations in Texas and in Arkansas. Lucy has an Ed. D. in Instructional Technology from Texas Tech University, her bachelor of music education is from East Texas Baptist University, and her master of library science is from Texas Woman's University. She has taught 6-12th grade choirs, reading and school librarianship in Texas school districts for almost ten years. Currently, she is preparing to teach at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA.
